Year-Round Course Summary
Students master single digit addition and subtraction using multiple strategies along with telling time and handling money. Students begin discovery of multiple digit addition and subtraction as well.
Course Requirements
Prior to joining this course, students should be able to:
- Read and write numbers to 100
- Count to 100 forwards and backwards
- Add and subtract single digits using objects or fingers if needed
Course Content (Units are 4-6 weeks)
Unit 1 - Single digit addition strategies
Unit 2 - Complements of 10 and their use
Unit 3 - Single digit subtraction strategies and part-part-whole relationships
Unit 4 - Using number bonds to decompose and recompose numbers to aid in addition and subtraction
Unit 5 - Working with coins to make varying amounts
Unit 6 - Introduction to fractions and fair sharing
Unit 7 - Telling time to half and quarter hours
Unit 8 - Story problems and number patterns
Unit 9 - Advanced subtraction strategies
